Why is it that the common blue varies so much in colour? The observations at the foot of this page vary from light blue to brown. Are males and females different colours?
I was going to ask if juveniles differed from adults - then realised that wouldn't be the right question to ask about a butterfly!
Yes Males are Blue and Females Brown the Male tends to be the Brighter Eg Orange Tip Male versus plain female, colour also varies with age . Colour can also be deceptive from photographs as irresdescence depends on lighting condition white balance and camera technique etc
