Description:

I may very well have walked past this without a second glance but for two things. 1. A group of canoeists were bearing down on it from behind and 2. Its alarm calls (very different from Mute Swan). It was swimming down river close to the far bank and I think the canoeists were making it nervous. I just managed to fire off a couple of shots before it flew away down river. (Any suggestions as to why it might be here would be welcome)

Whooper

Birds of Scotland by Thom records birds staying for reasons of being escaped from collections, because of injury or sub-lethal poisoning, but also there have been records of breeding on occasion. In the very NW corner of Scotland, I have seen odd birds in many different summers...such summering birds are not that uncommon.
