This could well be Betula pendula,but without seeing the foliage, it could equally be one of the more exotic Birches such as B. utilis or B. papyrifera.

Hi David, thanks for that. As I commented I know very little about bark, it just looked very similar to what I've always known as a "silver birch" in my garden. Regards Chris.
