Wild Flowers of Brit & Irl,

Wild Flowers of Brit & Irl, indicates V. virgatum as native only in Devon & Cornwall but widespread as a casual. I would suggest that It probably is a hybrid with V. nigrum as there is purple speckling at the base of the petals; a trait of Dark Mullein.

Purple patch

Twiggy Mullein has purple blotches at the base of the petals, too.
