Description:

I desperately need this foreign-looking tree identified as there were a very large number of insects attracted to it, including a dozen hoverfly species, half of which I've never seen, three types of longhorn etc..

Many species & varieties available, evergreen & deciduous, with orange to red fruits; some yellow, & ranging from prostrate shrubs to small trees.

Possibly C. frigidus or similar.

heaving with insects

thanks Brock and all for the id. I guess the species doesn't matter that much, unless perhaps one might attract more insects than another. I'll add a list of the species on this small tree once I've worked through them. The tree is growing at the edge of a well-drained limestone wood, beside a fruit farm that's had awful pollination this year
