Luzula campestris

Typical L. campestris flowerhead with 3 or 4 stalked heads and one sessile one. It's worth checking the other characters however - for example the leaves should be less than 4mm wide (up to 6mm in L. multiflora the other similar possibility) and end in a small knob at each leaf tip. The main difference however is that L. campestris is rhizomatous and L. multiflora isn't. It's easy to tell in the field with a bit of careful excavation.
