Last year I got very excited when a photo was posted on iSpot showing a Noble Chafer larva:
This turned out to be the first Buckinghamshire record for about 100 years, and led to the discovery of a previously unknown population spread over several nearby sites.
Yesterday, Matt Dodds and colleagues re-visited the privately-owned orchard where the larva was first found, and managed to find the adult beetle! The photo above is Matt's, and I am posting it on his behalf (while gritting my teeth and trying not to be too jealous!). What a great insect.
