A very big, bristly and distinctive fly

Lordship Recreation Ground is the park adjoining Broadwater Farm estate in Tottenham. It won an X-factor style lottery grant bid to get a complete make-over, and many parts of the park are being altered to favour wildlife. The park wildlife group collects sightings, so far we've found several fantastic and unexpected species. For other stuff found here and in the adjacent Downhills park, paste or type our tag "Lordship Rec Wildlife Group" into iSpot search

I've not said it before, but what you all seem to be achieving there is fantastic. I have been really interested to see the variety of insects you have recorded already. In five years, say, you will have a most impressive site list. Well done...truly an inspiration for others to set up something similar!

Many thanks for your comments and encouragement. Very similar wide meadowing of the playing field edges was done around five years ago on Hackney marshes - that seems to have matured and is now seething with species.. Most of Lordship rec is still fenced off for works at the moment, we're expecting the big re-opening soon.
