From memory I think Ivy broomrape is supposed to be more common on Hedera hibernica (Irish Ivy) so if you are still in Somerset you could see this more western plant
Yes, I think you are right Mark. I am actually home now, but have seen hibernica in Bristol.

I'm not sure what the up to date decision is as to species or subspecies - hibernica has twice the number of chromosomes as helix
