Sand Spurrey on Rodway Hill

Observed: 17th June 2012 By: Will AveryWill Avery’s reputation in PlantsWill Avery’s reputation in PlantsWill Avery’s reputation in PlantsWill Avery’s reputation in Plants
Small light mauve flowers
Description:

Only noticeable when it flowers. Not, as I first thought, Lawn Lobelia. The BRERC data set for this 1 km square shows Spergularia rubra, but this is a fuzzy snapshot.

Sand Spurrey, description

Sand Spurrey, description indicates it is the only one to be found inland; away from the coast.

I have received an excellent 10x loupe from someone that I told about this error!

Inland

Road verges are now a common habitat for Spergularia marina along with a host of other salt-tolerant species. (Cochlearia danica, Sagina maritima, Puccinellia distans, and Atriplex littoralis etc, but not Spergularia rupicola as far as I know). This looks a nice sandy habitat which suits S. rubra.
