Description:

I thought a pair of ducks were arguing for some time before I looked over and saw this huge thing floundering in the pond. My immediate impression was that someone had released a Bullfrog or something. This must be at the top end of frog sizes

Introductions?

ok, thanks. Are these introductions just someone moving them about irresponsibly, or part of some controlled project? I'll take the bird lens tomorrow and try to get a shot of their warty skin. Springwatch did a feature at this tiny pond a couple of years ago, I don't recall mention of them then.

There have been several

There have been several introductions of this species, some dating back over a hundred years. They have never been a native species and any releases of them would certainly be considered irresponsible, and since 1981 would also be illegal.
