I believe the auricles of this native grass are distinctive enough to identify it to species level but I would be interested to know what others think!

looks a bit like Agropyron repens but auricle not enclosing enough
Such a pain in my garden that I just think of it as the enemy and don’t look at it properly, but you are right this could be confused (by me anyway) with couch grass.
As this plant ages the auricles rap round the stem to eventually overlap as they do with couch grass but I still think the purple colouration is a difference.
