not Chrysogaster

it's not this, the wing venation is all wrong, but I don't know what else has dark wings like this

Hoverfly - Cheilosia

Thank you Ophrys. C. variabilis has somewhat darkened wings and a hairy face, although I'm not sure this has a sufficiently elongated abdomen for this species, and I am more than happy to settle for Cheilosia, a very useful ID for me!

Thanks Jeremy for emphasising the venation, so important for me to look carefully at this!
