Wow - it looks radioactive!

yeah its quite bizarre looking with its coat of algae in the flash of the camera. The tub was about a foot high, its made a terrible error by clambering into it. If it wanted a swim it should have went for the lake about 5 yards away.
leaching from the lick would have permeated the porous skin, and killed it quite quickly, I guess. Fertilizer pellets can have the same effect.
Drilling drain holes in these tubs would not be a bad idea.
yeah that would be a good idea. There are far too many of these tubs on that piece of moorland. Some have been there for years, virtually all of them havent contained any mineral lick for a very long time. In truth the sheep farmer himself should retrive and remove his old tubs but maybe I am going to have to do this for him. In the past these tubs have contained some interesting invertebrate life so I always check them. Eg Dead dragonflies.
