An interesting pattern on

An interesting pattern on this one. Normally the abdomen is white between the strips of black, sometimes yellow, but this one is half and half.

There were quite a lot

There were quite a lot around, but we didn't see any females, which was a bit peculiar. I have more pics if that would help with confimration. I'll upload one. :-)

I am not doubting the ID. It is normal to see flocks of males only when they emerge (later here than down your way!), especially on thistles.
