Description:

A nest made of folded leaves, glued (?) together, or perhaps 'stitched' together. This was in amongst the nettles alongside a chalky track - part of the South Downs Way - but at a low-level, where the Way crosses the River Arun.

Red Admiral larvae

Are said to do this, as are those of the Burnished Brass moth - and probably others. too. You need to find an actual caterpillar, to be sure. Which is not going to be fun - exactly the point of the exercise!
