Description:

this and a large Drone fly were the only things moving nearly an hour ago, when the rain suddenly stopped. The beetle climbed to the top of a six foot upright log and, as I craned over it for further shots, suddenly seemed both to fall and flick itself outwards a few millimeters. It 'tumbled' like a grain of wheat down the slight slope of the log and caught in a crevice about a foot below
