Black

The location you describe immediately says Black Redstart, which nest around buildings often. In terms of plumage, Redstart would be paler below, without that grey tone throughout.

On checking think there is a

pale ring round the eye & it was around for a while so maybe it was nesting in a nearby building.

Book?

Not sure what you are using, but it may need throwing out!

Black Redstart are uncommon in this country and tend to be seen around the coast or around industrial sites. In much of mainland Europe, though, they are a far commoner bird and are found in city centres, even.

A female like this is just dull grey all over, whereas Redstart is a much paler, buffy bird. Don't ask me about extent of red above the tail, as my colourblindness means I never see the red anyway!

Thanks for your comments

I was trying to keep an open mind about the habitat & tripped myself up.This area has it all.Did not expect it to be a Black Redstart. My book,I note says it is more secure than the Redstart.I see of the last 4 Black Redstart Obs. 2 of them are mine.I am getting more aware esp. to song (before my hearing decreases further!)Am getting lucky I think but not always 100% accurate which might be stating the obvious ;-)
