Thanks Nick, I took several

Thanks Nick,

I took several shots of this one, is a top view any more useful for IDing?

I wonder have the alien species been found in Ireland yet? This weevil found in Co Antrim.

Thanks for feedback,

Edit- Ive added another pic, its not exactly a top view as the only proper top view I took is badly focused.

Cathal.

Weevils

The new species haven't been recorded in Ireland yet as far as I know, but do seem to be spreading and there was a likely record in Scotland on iSpot in 2010, see http://www.ispot.org.uk/node/97731 which has an NBN link to O.armadillo distribution records. I think yours isn't broad enough in the beam for the aliens, though, so more likely it's the Vine weevil O. sulcatus. Here is an article about the invaders: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2309909.stm

Thanks bery much for all the info. and links Nick.

I only find weevils infrequently, this one appeared at the back door the other night. I might add an ID of vine weevil to link it with other images based on your info.
