Fairly common plant found growing alongside fresh waterways. The leaves are edible and rich in Vitamin C. White flowers in April/May.

Interestingly your comments on what you thought was water-cress are equally valid for scurvy-grass! Except scurvy-grass grows in drier habitats. Water-cress is never found out of water, although often a muddy puddle will do.

Thanks for the help here. I have only just read these comments (sorry) and now have done enough plant identification around Weardale/Teesdale/Allendale to realise what this is. And now I also am aware of how lucky we are to have these plants up here at all.
