Early Dog Violet. darker notched spur

For me, the first day of Spring is when I see my first wild violet. This year, it was 6th April - rather later than usual (even here in Scotland) for obvious reasons. I have sighting records going back to 1998, and from about October each year I start to count the weeks until I will find the first wild violet of the coming year. Obsessive? Yes, guilty as charged! Just like one of the contributors to Saving Species this morning (13th April).
