Description:

Distant view of a group of four Shearwaters, probably. Flying very low in single file. Three shots taken in quick succession of the same group pasted onto one photo for easier comparison.

I don't think there can be

I don't think there can be any doubt that they are Guillemots. You can see the white wing bar, the shape of the head and bill, and all else you need in the second bird from the left in shot A. Any shearwater has much longer wings, and would be gliding every few flaps - something a Guillemot never does unless descending rapidly from a great height.

Guillemots

Thanks to all for your corrections and helpful comments. I see now that they must be Guillemots - and there's no trick of the light except that the white on the wings seems to be more prominent on the left wing of each bird - just the angle I suppose.
