it was very small, bigger

it was very small, bigger than say a white shouldered house moth with which I am familiar. It almost had the markings of a bee moth looking at it, though it was much smaller than that

Size

The size sounds right for Brown House Moth as I suggested. They can actually vary quite a bit in size (as can White Shouldered House Moth), probably because of the variable quality of their detritus based diet.
