This is a very warn female Meadow Brown. Despite large chunks missing from its wings it was able to fly.

Meadow brown butterfly.

I'm amazed this poor butterfly could still fly! It looks to be missing a whole hindwing.

Your not that far south of me in Yorkshire, yet our meadow browns still look fresh.
