Not heard 'Blindworm' as a common name before! Is this a Yorkshire name?

it is also sometimes referred to as the blindworm or blind worm in parts of Yorkshire, though organizations such as the RSPB considers this to be incorrect.

us Yorkshire folk can be a bit on the eccentric
side naming fauna species, we call short-eared owl - bog owls in the dales :-)

I don't think you can have an 'incorrect' common name (unless it is already used elsewhere I suppose). It's interesting to hear of local common names like this. I like 'bog owl' too.

Blindworm

I think blindworm used to be fairly commonly used across the country. A lot of older books use the term alongside slow worm. Shakespeare used the name a few times, but then he wasn't much of a herpetologist and thought they were venomous...
