Conopid / Thick-headed fly

A rather sinister parasite of bumblebees which they jump on to insert an egg by piercing the bee's abdomen. Never numerous. Thought I'd photographed one recently but it turned out to be the closely related Myopa, but the yellow frons and very curled abdomen look right for Sicus.

Nick Upton, naturalist and photographer.
