Description:

Black, irregular shaped, soft growth, possibly on an oak tree (not in leaf yet) Could it be a stage of King Alfred's Cake? The size is right, but it is soft, rather than hard, and the tree is very much alive.

Take out the 'cf'

Yes, it's Exidia glandulosa. However, the cf will mean it doesn't group with other E. glandulosa observations in the iSpot database.

Give a revised id without the cf and no doubt others will agree.
