Very dark purpley red leaves, single colour flower. I assume it is a wild violet, but what sort is it? Self seeded over gravel/ stone with very poor soil.

V. labradorica

The RHS in their Plant Finder publication, say that V. labradorica is misapplied to Viola riviniana 'Purpurea Group' and give a reference to a note in their journal, The Garden, 110(2): 96.

INteretsing - thanks. I think the stuff in my garden spread by thin underground runners but was never very happy with it being the same as wild riviniana
