It looks like you are handling the newt very gently, but someone told me that if you handle a newt with dry hands it can damage their skin. Does anyone know if this is true?
It doesn't damage their skin per se but can damage the mucous which covers it. It is always best to minimise handling of amphibians (it is sometimes necessary, especially when sexing these small newts) and always make sure your hands are wet when handling them.
thanks- I didnt realise it could be damaging.
I will minimise handling.
