Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Perhaps go back to same place and look for others just incase this one had been affected by something else that had caused the colouration and smell. There are generally not many other similar mushrooms around at this time of year but with fungi you do occasionally get odd appearances of all sorts of species especially with rains after prolonged dry spell.
the colour seemed right, identical to the pics mentioned, white, but not brilliant white.
I had to use the flash so the pictures won't reflect that. Also the cap is wet from carrying it home in the bag shown with wet grass. everything seemed right but for the smell. I've been back and not found anything else there at all

St George's do have a really distinct mealy smell, quite unpleasant actually!
