Alien

There is an alien supspecies which is often planted which is more robust. Sanguisorba minor ssp. balearicum (muricatum) is the current name. You need fruits or John Poland's book to distiguish it.

Query

Am I seeing some signs of fasciation in the stem? If so this would explain 'robustness.

I agree with Graeme. I think

I agree with Graeme. I think this is Fodder Burnet, Poterium sanguisorba ssp. balearicum (previously Sanguisorba minor ssp muricata)

No fasciation

There is no fasciation. There were a dozen or do specimens, all looking much the same.

Thanks for the ID!
