Red/chestnut head and red eyes, I got confussed for a little white as there were also Wigeon and I had never seen them both together close up

The bird on the right looks like a red crested pochard, but...

...I'd have expected a bright red bill. I'm sure someone can explain it. I can't.

I must admit the dark bill

I must admit the dark bill threw me a bit but the general shape and plumage all say Red-crested Pochard. As no one else agrees with my ID may be I’m wrong but I can’t for the life of me think what else it could be!

I'm pretty sure it IS a Red Crested Pochard...

I'm almost certain that's what it is; it's just that I've never seen one like that before! I expect we'll see them all over the place now.
