Hi Chris,

That would be my guess based on "Bees of Surrey" but its so difficult from photographs isn't it - thanks so much for giving it a go!

Difficult

Hi David, It seems a good match but as you say it is so very difficult as there are so many species. You have taken a very comprehensive set of images and the white hairs underneath rule out a confusion species A.thoracica, I think !!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again for your help Chris - the habitat might also tend to argue against thoracica, as the Tudeley woods car park is on high woodland on clay - and the heathland is on the other side of the road, which I think thoracica might like.

I'll eventually have to start catching a few of these I think, but at the moment I'm learning such a lot from trying a few photos,
