Description:

I found this small bug on the back of my neck when I took a break from the Hockney exhibition on the steps of the Royal Academy. It was stunned but not dead and eventually flew away. Its wings look a bit parted compared with other photos of bugs... maybe as a result of being plucked from my neck?

Hi Martin, most interesting article. Do you think you could get this to species level. Regards Chris

Arocatus longiceps?

they seem to have decided

they seem to have decided here what it is:

http://www.britishbugs.org.uk/heteroptera/Lygaeidae/Arocatus_longiceps.html

but I've no idea how final or up-to-date this is, they've not yet registered Rhyparochromus vulgaris first found in 2010, now plentiful

This is going to be fun!

All it is going to take is a good breeding season combined with the games and they will be remembered for it. They appear to like the hybrid that was bred as a street tree too.

Tristan, Why not agree my ID

Tristan, Why not agree my ID rather than duplicating it?

chrisbrooks's picture

Agreement ?

I have to agree with you Martin, I cannot see why this has been done. All it has achieved is to create a duplicate identification and taken the "Likely ID" away from you when you did all the work.

Perhaps someone with more experience of the workings of iSpot can explain this please.

Hi, I think the reason why

Hi, I think the reason why Tristan's identification has taken precidence over yours is because yours was tentative, and his is unequivocal.

Keep trying

We will have to keep trying and then the ID should change over.
I have never seen one in the flesh yet and will have to wait until they get onto the trees in Chesterfield market square.
