Description:

These 2 specimens were found on an oak in an old wood in Derby.
They were hard and corky, and the margins were acute.
Both were low down, one being very close to the ground.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

It is certainly a Ganoderma

It is certainly a Ganoderma and from it's general shape G applanatum is the most likely but if you read http://www.ispot.org.uk/node/104341 you will see shape is not the deciding factor.
