Europe

The classic Arnold and Ovenden is still the best for Europe overall, but a lot of the names are out of date now. The Amphibians and Reptiles of Greece by Efstratios D Valakos, Panayiotis Pafilis, Konstantinos Sotiropoulos, Petros Lymberakis, Panayiota Maragou, Johannes Foufopoulos is good for Greece but there are apparently some inaccuracies with regard to range in it.

Thanks. I've found Arnold and Ovenden a bit hit and miss on range sometimes. An appropriate example is H. turcicus which is not shown as occurring in Lesvos. Still, I guess things change and species move - but I can't imagine that H. turcicus have appeared on Lesvos since last edition..

I think the trouble is that the Greek island of the Turkish coast (including Lesvos) were not included within the original 1978 edition of Arnold. When they were added to the later version, the original maps from the 1978 edition were used without expanding them to cover these islands.
