Description:

White umbel with purple anthers, many of these grow along stream bank every year. Just leaves sprouting now, flowers May/June.

Reasonably sure it is an Oenanthe, probably O. crocata but definitely not Oenanthe oenanthe.

Oenanthe

Many thanks Ophrys and Mark - Umbels drive me crazy trying to ID and it's been worrying me for years that what I thought was Angelica wasn't 100% right... but Oenanthe looks spot on, and I'll accept "probably" for O. crocata. If there is anything really distinctive that would help nail it, I have masses of macro shots of insects feeding on these umbels - with the flowers in close up - as they attract all sorts.
