Definitely this genus as the sides of the pronotum poject backwards as partly transparent flanges. A good photo but nymphs of this genus are hard to separate e.g. the last pair of gills look as if there's no associated tuft, but a specimen is needed to be sure,

Thanks Dave, I was toying with a species ID but it became a bit of a minefield so I stayed at genus level, regards Chris.

Just added another photo that I think has slightly better light. Thank you for the ID, out of interest, is there a field guide to Mayflies & their Nymphs, or something of that ilk?

Mayfly nymphs

Good photos, but it's really tricky without a specimen - you really need to be able to move it around and view from different angles.

There's this basic online key http://www.fba.org.uk/recorders/publications_resources/keys/mayfly/conte...

The species level key is out of print but has been uploaded as a pdf here http://www.famu.org/mayfly/pubs/pub_e/pubelliottj1988p1.pdf

FSC Ephemeroptera guide

There are actually some excellent species guides for Ephemeroptera. I would particularly recommend the FSC Pictorial Guide to British Ephemeroptera by Craig Macadam and Cyril Bennett as an excellent field guide to species ID for both nymphs and adults, with lots of great photos and ecologcial information. Regrettably there seems to be a problem finding it on the website just now so I can't link to it.

The Freshwater Biological Association also have a recent edition of their key to mayfly larvae, and a key to adults too. These are more suited for microscope examination than field study. http://www.fba.org.uk/scientific-publications
