Althoug it is probably a Smooth Newt, the level of detail in this picture is such that a full ID can not be arrived at.

I agree with Matt almost certainly a common newt but just can not be certain. The size is right for a common smooth newt rather than a palmate which rarely tops 9 cm. Do you have any clearer pictures, or from a different angle?
