Description:

Flowers bluish violet with a pale blunt spur that is notched at the tip,pointed sepals,leaves long stalked,heart shaped and mainly hairless.The name Dog violet was a derogatory term often used for wild flowers to distinguish an inferior form from relatives that were superior in some way.For example Doge rose (a rose which is not cultivated ) dog's mercury (the useless relative of annual mercury which was used in medicine)and Dog wood (a shrub who's berries were not fit to be eaten)
