Description:

There was recent mention of the Rye Meads kingfishers. These pictures were part of (quite a large!) group I took last year, and show two female birds. They dive-bombed spectacularly each other for at least 15 minutes.

Photographing kingfishers

These photos are fantastic. There are kingfishers near where we live by the River Frome but I have never been able to photograph one as all they do is fly past at great speed and vanish!

I'm Glad You Like Them, SW9343

The perched bird wasn't moving - that was her perch, and she was keeping it. The second bird kept bombing her, so it was just a matter of watching out for her, then putting the camera into motor drive. A long lens helped a lot, of course.
At the time there were several chaps in the hide saying that it was two males fighting over territory, and it wasn't until I got home and looked at the pictures that I realised that they both had orange lower mandibles.
