Hi. Sorry for bad quality photo - this bird arrived in my garden during the January cold snap and didn't look like any of my usual residents or visitors - can anyone help identify? Thanks!

I might be way off mark here but it looks like a thrush to me. Poss song or mistle thrush. Underneath looks dappled and there's a hint of an eye stripe. The tail looks wrong though!

No, not very unusual, esp. if you had some apples on the lawn. They can get quite possessive and chase off any blackbirds.
A lot of reports this year about fieldfares in gardens. More so than usual around our way. Poss hard winter! And don't worry about the comment, I'm still learning and sometimes I am way off; so that's not unusual either!

I agree much more likely to be Fieldfare, the mention of gray head gets it for me.
