Description:

Andy Culshaw and I found quite a few of these today. Difficult to separate the two similar orange underwing species without netting them (challenging when they never drop below about 10 foot). Suggested ID with field observations below.
The photos (taken using the point, press and pray methodology) may be some slight help too.
Will be interested to know if anyone thinks there is enough here to reliably identify them.

Is there Aspen at Headley Heath? If not, then Light Orange Underwing can be ruled out.

As the field notes indicate no Aspen was observed. However we did not undertake a full botantical survey of the reserve to determine whether it (or other poplar species) was present in small amounts.
