Confidence: I'm as sure as I can be.
Notes: I didn't get a photo of this lovely little creature but I am pretty sure that it was a Bee-fly. I saw it through the window today, at my home near Inverness, and wondered if this was an unusual sighting this far north at this time of year. It was bee-like, in that it was furry but I saw no stripes. Its body was grey-brown and seemed to be almost triabgular in shape. Its main characteristic was its long proboscis, which it was using to feed from some winter violas in my window box. A real treat - I've never seen this insect before.
