Two white mites seen crawling over the elytra of a 7 spot ladybird.
No interactions present.
If these mites are parasites of the ladybird could they have caused the dark discolouration on the red of the elytra?

Thank you, bit of luck, really only spotted them when looking at the photo on the computer.
I wonder if these are sexually transmitted mites in the genus Coccipolipus, which cause sterility in some ladybirds. These are mentioned here: http://www.ladybird-survey.org/enemies.aspx but I haven't seen any photos of these that look like the ones on your ladybird.
