A single mushroom I found growing in my compost bin in March 2012. Please can you identify it for me?

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.
No interactions present.
Could be a Brown Birch Bolete or similar but not 100% sure.
I can see the purple markings on the stem that are seen on Blewits.
Boletes have pores and the specimen here has gills.
I am very sure it is not a Bolete.
Definitely a blewit. Just a comment relating to the "it's an edible one" above, be very very careful when you are considering eating wild mushrooms, you need to be 100% sure of the identification; I'd recommend spending considerable time learning in the field with a mycologist (fungi specialist) before even considering eating anything that you've not bought in a shop! And, after all that, some people react badly to certain "edible" mushrooms, sadly blewits don't agree with me :o(
