These birds have moved off the seafront and are now on the oyster bed islands in large numbers, the noise was deafening.

The head,of course, is not actually black, but brown. A black head is found on Mediterranean Gull, which, of course, increasingly is found away from the Mediterranean, or Laughing Gull from America; although Black-headed Gull should really be Laughing Gull, as that is what ridibundus means. However, cacchinans means laughing, too, so maybe Caspian Gull should be the Laughing Gull?
It's all very confusing...anyway, Black-headed has a brown head.
