So many Cladonia species!
Yes - a lot to get to grips with, and I still have a very long way to go.
It's a nightmare genus: as well as all the lookalikes, many species show a bewildering range of variation, but it's all good fun!
I haven't knowingly found C. rangiferina in my neck of the woods, but it should have many branches curved in the same direction, with purplish-brown tips, whereas C. portentosa is more uniform (isotropic?) in its branching, and at a wider angle.
