Dead Man's or Dead Moll's? I'd be happy with a generic ID of Xylaria.
I've agreed the Xylaria ID, but I'm not at all sure now the possibility of Geoglossum has been suggested!
So not Geoglossum? Looks quite ladylike - Moll's.
Geoglossum is another possibility. Isn't it great how a fungus that looks really distinctive can turn out to be so confusing!
