Your description sounds very much like a Sanderling - and I can understand how the wing pattern in flight could resemble Turnstone (Sanderlings have surprisingly dark wings with an obvious white wing bar, and often a pale patch visible on the wing coverts).
Was there meant to have been a photo attached?
If so, try editing the post to attach it - solely based on your description I'd be prepared to agree to an identification certainty of "It's likely to be this.." though!
